The 2003 2 oz Gold Kangaroo Nugget Coin was minted by The Perth Mint in Australia. Inspired by the South African Krugerrands, The Perth Mint introduced their own series to represent their nation.
Initially, this series featured famous gold nuggets discovered in Australia on the reverse side of the coins. However, starting in 1990, the design shifted to showcase the kangaroo, a symbol synonymous with Australia. The 2 oz bullion coins in this series feature the Red Kangaroo, Australia’s largest native kangaroo species, known for their remarkable jumping ability and speed.
The 2003 edition of this coin, like others in the 2 oz bullion series, features the Red Kangaroo on the reverse.
