The Chinese Year of the Goat began on 19 February 2015, marking the eighth animal in the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle. Also associated with the sheep in Chinese tradition, the goat symbolises harmony, prosperity and growth.
The number eight is considered particularly auspicious in Chinese culture, representing good fortune and prosperity. These traditional associations make the Year of the Goat a popular theme among collectors of lunar-themed precious metal coins.
Designed by Ing Ing Jong, the reverse depicts a family of goats standing in a peaceful field. The design incorporates the Chinese character for ‘goat’ alongside the inscription ‘Year of the Goat’, celebrating the animal’s place in the Chinese zodiac.
