The Wedge-tailed Eagle – Guardian of the Australian Outback

Found throughout mainland Australia and Tasmania, the wedge-tailed eagle soars above open country, forests and remote outback terrain. Its distinctive wedge-shaped tail and feathered legs make it instantly recognisable, earning it a prominent place in Australia’s natural heritage.
Eagle Pair – Coloured Reverse Design
The coin’s reverse features a detailed coloured portrayal of two magnificent birds of prey. In the foreground, the Australian wedge-tailed eagle displays its characteristic dark brown plumage, while the American bald eagle appears behind it, distinguished by its iconic white head and striking yellow bill.
Both eagles gaze majestically to the right, creating a powerful composition that celebrates these remarkable birds. The bald eagle also pays tribute to the 250th anniversary of American independence, commemorated on 4 July 2026.
The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the coin’s weight and purity, and the 2026 year-date.
