Struck from 1 troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver, the coin features a stunning dual-design reverse created by Wade Robinson. The coloured central design depicts a mature killer whale and calf swimming beneath the Antarctic waters, while the surrounding struck design portrays an adult orca breaching amongst floating icebergs. The design is further enhanced by an outline of the Antarctic continent and the inscriptions 2011 – KILLER WHALE and AUSTRALIAN ANTARCTIC TERRITORY.

Killer whales are the largest members of the dolphin family and are renowned for their intelligence, sophisticated social structures, and highly effective hunting techniques.
