Celebrating 125 Years of The Perth Mint
Established on 20 June 1899 during Western Australia’s gold rush, The Perth Mint has played a significant role in Australia’s precious metals and coinage history.
Initially established to refine gold and produce sovereigns, the Mint went on to strike millions of sovereigns and produce Australian circulating coinage for decades. In 1986, it returned to its original purpose as a producer of fine gold coins and subsequently became internationally recognised for its exceptional craftsmanship, innovative designs and high-quality precious metal products.
Today, The Perth Mint is renowned for producing premium bullion and collectible coins sought after by collectors and precious metal enthusiasts around the world.
The coin’s reverse features an artistic composition of three iconic Australian animals: the kangaroo, kookaburra and koala. These native species are arranged among golden wattle, Australia’s national floral emblem, creating a design that celebrates the country’s distinctive wildlife and natural heritage.
A commemorative scroll bears the inscription ‘1899 THE PERTH MINT 2024’, marking the Mint’s 125th anniversary. The design also incorporates the special ‘P125’ mintmark, together with the coin’s weight, silver purity and year of issue.
Struck in proof quality, this commemorative release combines fine silver craftsmanship with a meaningful tribute to one of Australia’s most historic mints.
