Description
Issued for a strictly limited three-month production window, the 2018 Athena 10 oz Silver Round is the fifth release in the highly regarded Modern Ancients Series. This beautifully designed piece draws inspiration from one of the most famous coin designs of the ancient world.
The original coins depicting Athena were first struck more than 2,500 years ago in the city-state of Athens, Greece, which was named after the revered goddess herself. This modern interpretation pays tribute to that legacy with a striking depiction of Athena standing with shield raised before the Parthenon – the historic symbol of Athenian power and the birthplace of democracy.
Athena is shown wearing a traditional Hoplite helmet featuring the owl, a symbol of wisdom closely associated with the goddess. Known in Greek mythology as a warrior of intellect and strategy rather than aggression, Athena represents logic, justice and principled defence.
Reflecting these ideals, the word “JUSTICE” appears on the obverse alongside the 2018 year-date. The detailed high-relief design and mirror-like background enhance the striking visual impact of the piece.
The reverse features the distinctive GoldSilver crest with the phrase “Free Markets & Free People.” A lion and bull appear near the centre, referencing their appearance on some of the earliest coins ever minted in ancient Lydia thousands of years ago.
Each round is presented in a premium acrylic display case, held securely with rare earth neodymium magnets for effortless opening and closing
