Description
This coin celebrates 90 years since the discovery of the Golden Eagle natural gold nugget. Named for its striking resemblance to a bird of prey in flight, the Golden Eagle was discovered by James Larcombe’s 17-year-old son during the Great Depression in January 1931 near Widgiemooltha, a small town 630 kilometres east of Perth. Weighing 1,136 ounces (35.3 kg), this remarkable find remains the largest nugget ever unearthed in Western Australia.
Minted from 99.99% pure silver, the coin features the iconic nugget against a backdrop of radial lines. The design includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the commemorative inscription GOLDEN EAGLE 1931.
As an Australian legal tender, only 30,000 of the 2021 Golden Eagle Nugget 1oz Silver Bullion Coins will be issued. Each coin comes in an individual acrylic capsule.
Note: Stock may include coins purchased from the secondary market in good condition.
